The Ten Commandments in the Old Testament

The 2 New Testament Commandments:
²⁷ The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’”

Good News Translation  ( quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18 )

The first four commandments tell us how to behave toward God.
The first rule tells us that there is only one God and we should serve only Him.
The second rule says we should not make idols, which are images of other gods.  He doesn't want us to make anything or anybody more important in our lives than Him.
The third rule says we should not use God's name as a swear word or in disrespectful inapropriate way.
The fourth rule says to keep the seventh day holy.  God made all the world in six days and on the seventh day he rested.  He wants us to use one day a week for resting and thanking God.

The next six rules tell us how to behave toward each other ( respect, not kill, not betray, not steal, lie or covet someone's belongings ).

God gave us these rules to live by because He loves us and wants what us to be in connection with Him..
The people of Israel, just like us, found it hard to live by these rules.
That is why they had to do animal sacrifices daily in the Jerusalem temple to hide their flaws and transgressions from God- it was called holocaust.
They realised that man's heart and mind tends is unable to fully please God, even if we actually avoid doing wrong actions. God looks deep in our hearts and minds and sees the motives behind our actions.
Has anyone never sinned? No...
So...we need a SAVIOUR that has never sinned to pay the due penalty of our transgressions against God and men.
But we also need an ADVOCATE who can plead our case before the HOLY God.
Jesus came...  to explain the rules of God, to obey them in His Heart, Mind, Body, at all times and to die for our transgressions, in our place. That means He saved us from eternal condemnation.
He is also disposed to make us favourable before God the Father, if we repent and ask Him to present our case.
Jesus' Commandments for us:
Love God first with all that we are and love our neighbor as ourselves.
